Another big difference between certified pre-owned and regular used cars is the warranty. CPO cars come with a warranty from the manufacturer, while others (you guessed it) do not.

The warranty length varies by manufacturer, but it is usually around three months or 6,000 miles, whichever comes first. Some manufacturers also offer extended warranties of up to 2 years or 100,000 miles.

Difference 3: Price

Certified pre-owned cars are pricier than other used cars but give the buyer mental relaxation. Considering the warranty and thorough inspection of CPO cars, it might be worth the extra money.

However, people are not always keen on spending extra, and it's possible that a regular used car might be the better option if you're on a tight budget. Just be sure to have it examined by a certified mechanic before you buy to ensure it is in good condition.

Be particularly careful about cars that seem to have hidden damage, as they are the ones that make buying a CPO all the more necessary!

Difference 4: Availability

Certified pre-owned cars are not always easy to find. Since they are in high demand, dealerships tend to have a limited selection of CPO cars. So if you're looking for an exact model and color, you may not have much luck.

On the other hand, regular used cars are much easier to find since so many are on the market. You're more likely to find the vehicle of your choice if you're willing to buy a regular used car instead of a certified pre-owned car.
